## **Before I Hit You With A Massive List Of LEGO® Droid Sets, Let’s Get A Bit Of A Background**

The Star Wars Droid Army’s backbone came from the Baktoid Combat Automata factories, the Trade Federation’s main droid manufacturer. [Principal manufacturing hubs for these droids were on Geonosis](/okf/posts/lego-star-wars/how-much-are-lego-battle-droids.md) — the same planet that Jango Fett lost his head on!

While they had names like _B1 Battle Droid_ and _Super Battle Droid_, these machines were lackluster against the Grand Army of The Republic. But, LEGO® does a halfway decent job of capturing them in minifigure form!

## **Vary It Up With A Selection Of Your LEGO® Star Wars Droids**

You can’t limit yourself to just one set. You need LEGO® Droid Commandos, B1 Battle Droids, Spider Droids, B2 Super Battle Droids, and [LEGO® Droidekas](/okf/posts/lego-star-wars/lego-star-wars-droidekas-you-need-in-your-collection.md) to build yourself an authentic Star Wars MOC!

## **Elite LEGO® Star Wars Droid Units**

Add some heavy firepower with Super Battle Droids and Droidekas (the rolling guys). These elite units are found in sets like the LEGO® Battle of Geonosis 75017 or the LEGO® AAT 75080 — yes, they are wicked expensive. They come equipped with some [finer LEGO® minifigure printing](/okf/posts/lego-minifigure/how-does-lego-print-minifigures.md) and molding, making them look like cinematic models.

## **LEGO® Droid Commandos Are Excellent For Leading Your Legions**

These guys are roughly $10–$15 each but are worth it. They have a brownish-blackish hue that matches the _Star Wars Clone Wars_ series, and they have an arm with a hand that can grasp a blaster in a realistic position.

## **Vehicles, Support Units, And Heavy LEGO® Droid Tanks Make For The Real Thing**

To bolster the authenticity of your LEGO® droid army, incorporate vehicles like the AAT, MTT, or the STAP. Although the LEGO® 75283 Star Wars Armored Assault Tank has soared in pricing, it is one of my favorite LEGO® Ahsoka sets, helping you give depth to your droid army.

## **Building a Droid Army on a Budget: Smart Strategies**

Let’s be real — building a full LEGO droid army can get expensive fast if you’re buying individual minifigures at collector prices. Here are some strategies that experienced army builders use to keep costs down while maximizing their ranks.

**Buy in bulk on eBay and BrickLink.** Individual B1 Battle Droids on Amazon might run $8–$12 each, but you can often find lots of 10–20 on eBay for $3–$5 per droid. BrickLink sellers frequently offer bulk droid lots from parted-out sets. The savings add up quickly when you’re building an army of 50+ droids. If you’re new to finding deals, check out our guide on [where to buy cheap LEGO](/okf/pages/where-to-buy-cheap-lego.md).

**Target battle packs first.** LEGO’s [Star Wars battle packs](/okf/posts/lego-star-wars/best-star-wars-lego-battle-packs.md) are specifically designed for army building. They typically include 4 minifigures for $15–$20, which works out to $4–$5 per figure — far cheaper than buying loose minifigs individually. The Clone Trooper and Droid battle packs from 2020–2024 are particularly good value if you can still find them at retail.

**Don’t overlook retired sets at garage sales.** Many LEGO fans have found incredible deals on retired Clone Wars sets at garage sales, thrift stores, and estate sales. A complete LEGO Droid Troop Carrier (75086) that sells for $100+ on BrickLink might show up at a garage sale for $15. It takes patience, but the payoff can be massive for your army. For more on [why these sets hold their value](/okf/posts/lego-investing/why-lego-sets-bricks-are-so-expensive.md), we’ve got you covered.

## **How many droids should I have in my army?**

As many as you can afford. Just kidding. Set yourself a budget and decide how large you want your LEGO® droid army to be for your MOC. Also, it doesn’t hurt to look on eBay for some bulk pieces!

## **Frequently Asked Questions**

### How do I build a LEGO Star Wars droid army?

Start with a mix of B1 Battle Droids, Super Battle Droids, and Droidekas. Buy individual minifigures from Amazon or BrickLink, target battle packs for bulk value, and add vehicles like the AAT or MTT for authenticity. Set a budget and build gradually.

### What is the cheapest way to get LEGO battle droids?

Bulk lots on eBay and BrickLink offer the best per-droid pricing ($3–$5 each vs. $8–$12 individually). Battle packs are also excellent value at roughly $4–$5 per minifigure. Garage sales and thrift stores can yield incredible finds on retired Clone Wars sets.

### Which LEGO sets have the most battle droids?

The Trade Federation MTT (75058) includes the most droids in a single set with 20 B1 Battle Droids. The Droid Troop Carrier (75086) and Battle of Geonosis (75017) are also excellent sources for multiple droid minifigures.

### Are LEGO battle droid minifigures a good investment?

Clone Wars-era droid minifigures have appreciated steadily since many sets retired. Specialty droids like Magna Guards and Commando Droids command premium prices. Standard B1 droids are affordable but hold their value well in bulk.
