Here is my fire-breath hot take on the best wizarding LEGO® set
I’m going to let you finish but…honestly, the LEGO® Harry Potter Hungarian Horntail 76406 is the greatest and best HP set they ever came out with in the theme. Why? It is a pivotal scene in the best of all 8 films (you heard that right) and captures the movement of the ferocious dragon that put a fire under Harry’s broom.
Why Is Set 76406 The Best Set From A Fan’s Perspective?
We are going heavy into the world of opinion, but let’s be real, when Harry spots the Hungarian Horntail guarding the Golden Egg in The Goblet of Fire, we all felt goosebumps. This set recreates a cinematic capture of the flap of the dragon’s wings as Harry weaves through Hogwarts ramparts to beat the Triwizard Challenge and advance in the tournament. Plus, the dragon is just incredible.
What Is The Best LEGO® Harry Potter Set Like To Build?
Set 76406 is a straightforward build at 671 pieces. The detail of the flying mechanism and wing movement is superb. The scaling and spikes of the Hungarian Horntail look menacing and the bonus of Harry Potter flying away on his broom is a plus. Everything fits together perfectly, and how it comes together makes sense. I think the only downside to this set is it is meant for adult fans of LEGO® (AFOLs) and is built for display. However, any experienced builder can figure out how to detach it from its flapping mechanism mount and craft it into a better action figure.
Should I Grab It?
100% a buy. This is one of the best Harry Potter LEGO® sets because it features a LEGO® dragon. It came out in 2022 with just one minifigure, but has gone on to capture many hearts of seasoned Harry Potter fans. Plus, it is expected to do quite well in retirement. You can’t go wrong. If you are looking for other exceptional Triwizard Tournament builds, the LEGO® Harry Potter Black Lake set is epic, or you can trick-out your current Hungarian Horntail LEGO® build with lights!
