This set is absolutely huge…
Released August 15th, 2018, this set has been casting spells on the LEGO® community for almost 5 years. With 6,020 pieces, you might look to get your entire family on board to help you finish the Hogwarts Castle. Is it worth the price tag at close to $467.00? Let’s see if this set can truly cast a spell on us!
What Is The Hogwarts Castle Like To Build?
From a strict, LEGO®-fan background, this set is incredible. Within the castle, there are tons of details, easter eggs, masterfully designed rooms, and scaled-down pieces. More importantly, there are 4 unique minifigures: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin – each equipped with their respective artifacts attached to the lore of their Harry Potter houses. Not to mention, there are an additional 24 microfigures with those 4 unique minifigures for a grand total of 28 Harry Potter LEGO® minifigures. The box is heavy and there are a gazillion bags, but everything is perfectly labeled and organized for a straight-forward build process.
Is LEGO® 71043 worth it?
From a LEGO® collector’s standpoint, I would recommend buying this set. From a LEGO® investing perspective…you will receive this set for somewhere in the ballpark of $400-$500 dollars. That price comes with some important aspects to be aware of for your portfolio.
These are valuable points to keep in mind: It is a huge box, takes up a lot of space, and the price tag can make fast appreciation difficult. It is LEGO® Harry Potter, which is always a good sign. The franchise careers a ton of weight. I would only buy 2-3 (a handful) of these sets and hold onto them for a minimum of 5 years if I am looking for a decent ROI.
The price tag will take some consumers out of the buying pool. Anyone who really wants this set has most likely already bought it. Long story short, it is a good investment but you should expect to deploy a long-term hold instead of a quick flip.
How Many Pieces Are In The LEGO® Hogwarts Castle 71043?
6,020 pieces. Most people build roughly 250-400 pieces an hour. At this rate, you are looking at 24 hours to build the set. Depending on your level of dedication, this could take 2-3 days for the seasoned fan, or a full week for an average builder. If you love LEGO®, it is totally worth the build, the time, and the effort!
Is The Hogwarts Castle 71043 Discontinued?
Not yet! It has been on the shelves 5 years which is way past the usual 2 year timeframe sets are given until LEGO® retires them. This is because the set has performed so well and a lot of people are still buying it. However, we can be pretty certain it will be retired sometime in 2024.
How Much Does the Set Weigh?
According to LEGO®, it weighs 7.63 kilograms which is 16.8 pounds. That is heavy, indeed. For the Hogwarts Castle, I would expect nothing less!
