LEGO® is all about creating your own characters, your own designs, and your own universe. LEGO® “MOC” stands for, and means, “My Own Creation.” This unofficial subtheme of the LEGO® community has given us insanely designed and masterfully built expanses spanning franchises and genres we could have never imagined! The wonder and excitement from MOCs comes from the builders: 90% of the time, no one is being truly recognized, paid, or voted on here — these are all builds constructed entirely from the fuel of passion.
I have seen MOCs for specific vehicles, custom mechs, and entire battles of Hoth with perhaps even Starship Troopers tossed into the mix. My Own Creation allows builders to explore banned building techniques and franchises LEGO® does not partner with — with the biggest added bonus of stimulating individuals to come up with ingenious methods for creating new, exciting scenes.
You can use a strictly built MOC, with no guidance and from the madness/passion for LEGO® from your own mind, or (and most commonly) use inspiration from current LEGO® sets to rebuild or expand. Pictured here is the LEGO® Creator Log Cabin 5766, which has been routinely remade and rebuilt in MOCs around the world.

How Do You Make Your Own MOC?
The first ingredient to an incredible MOC is passion. You need to become inspired and derive prue joy just from the act of building alone. If you have this much enthusiasm and love for LEGO®, you are halfway there.
Next, look online, or on YouTube, for videos and articles discussing niche-building methods for advanced builders. The AFOL, or adult fans of LEGO®, will be one of your strongest assets for research into formulating your MOC.
Then, get to building. Not just building your MOC, but sets in general. Do yourself a favor and develop a collection of parts and pieces to source from and give you ideas on how everything fits together. Do not be afraid to have a set posed beside you as you build, or a picture in front of you for reference — like a painter would do!
Lastly, share and then share more. LEGO® is about playing well together and the LEGO® community is no different. I have never met a more inclusive, heart-felt, and intelligent community of friends and builders. Please be open to critiques and suggestions, and never stop building!
