LEGO® Hogwarts Castle #71043 is still available at $469.99, and Brickset tracks its expected retirement for December 2027. At 6,020 pieces it is still the biggest Harry Potter set LEGO® has made.
It is not on the retiring LEGO® sets list yet. That page shows every set expected to leave within the next year, updated nightly.

Expected to leave LEGO.com around December 2027
Eight years at retail, and counting
Most sets this size get two or three years. Hogwarts Castle launched in September 2018 at $399.99 and is still on the shelf in 2026, which puts it in the same tiny club as the UCS Millennium Falcon: a flagship that simply refuses to retire. The price moved once, to $469.99 in the 2022 round of increases, and the expected exit has been pushed back more than once as sales held up. Brickset currently lists December 2027; this page refreshes from that date every night.
The demand numbers explain the long run. 16,782 Brickset members own this set and 6,798 more have it on a want list, for a Heat Index of 98.7. Owners rate it 4.4 out of 5. A set that popular is a set LEGO® has no reason to stop making, and that is the honest answer to the question that brings most people here: nobody outside Billund knows the day, but every signal says it is not imminent.
The set file
6,020 pieces build the castle in microscale, roughly 22 inches tall and 27 inches wide, with the Great Hall, the Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore's office, the Whomping Willow and Hagrid's hut all represented. The catalog counts 28 figures. Four are full-size minifigures of the school's founders (Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw), exclusive to this set, and the rest are microfigures of students, staff and creatures that populate the halls. At 7.8 cents per piece it is one of the better-value licensed flagships at retail, and it tops our biggest Harry Potter sets ranking by a wide margin: the Collectors' Edition Hogwarts Express is next at 5,129 pieces, and the 2023 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds #76419, the smaller microscale castle, has 2,660.
Which Hogwarts Castle should you buy?
There are two microscale castles on the market and people mix them up. This one, #71043, is the complete school at $469.99. #76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds is the $169.99 display version with the lake and greenhouses but far less of the castle itself. If you want the icon, this is it; if you want a shelf piece under $200, the smaller one is a fair compromise. The modular minifigure-scale Hogwarts sets from 2018 onward are a different product entirely, built to be played with and combined.
Buy now or wait?
On availability alone, there is no rush: the tracked exit is December 2027 and this set has outlived earlier expectations. The practical case for buying sooner is price. It has already gone up once, LEGO® has repriced long-running flagships before, and $469.99 sets are the ones that get double Insiders points and retailer discounts around the holidays. Once it does retire, a set with 6,798 people waiting will not stay at retail price on the secondary market. That is an observation about demand, not investment advice.
