Why Rivendell will sell out before the Falcon does
Rivendell launched in March 2023 and has spent its whole run near the top of our demand data. Right now 12,726 Brickset members own it and 7,259 more have it on a want list, which gives it a Heat Index of 99.4. Among everything expected to leave in the December 2026 wave, only the UCS Millennium Falcon runs hotter, and the Falcon has had nine years to build that following. Rivendell did it in under four.
I reviewed this set when it came out (linked below) and my opinion has not moved: the valley is the most complete Lord of the Rings scene LEGO® has built. Elrond's study with the Shards of Narsil, the forge, Bilbo's writing desk, the gazebo where the Fellowship is sworn, and a brick-built waterfall, all across three connecting sections about 75 cm wide. The 21 figures are the other half of the price: the entire Fellowship, plus Elrond, Arwen, Bilbo, Glóin and a company of Rivendell elves. Several of those characters exist in no other set, which is why they already show up on our rarest Lord of the Rings minifigures ranking.
The set file
6,167 pieces for $499.99 works out to 8.1 cents per piece, which is cheap for a licensed set of this size and cheaper than every UCS Star Wars set at retail. It sits in the top ten of our biggest current sets ranking and was the largest Lord of the Rings set ever made until Minas Tirith #11377 arrived in 2026; it still beats Barad-dûr by almost 700 pieces. Brickset members rate it 4.7 out of 5, one of the highest scores in the whole December wave.
What to do with a deadline
Until the exit date this set costs $499.99 from LEGO.com and the usual retailers, sometimes with double Insiders points around the holidays. After that, it is resellers only. Big licensed sets with exclusive figures are the ones that vanish earliest in a December wave, so if this has been on your list since 2023, the list now has a date on it. Availability is a fact; what you do about it is your decision.
