Amazon Might Be Your Best Bet For LEGO® Dimension Sets After All These Years
LEGO® Dimensions absolutely slapped when it first came out. Released in September of 2015, this eclectic blend of LEGO®, themes, and franchises allowed for a toys-to-life format, where minifigures you bought related to unlockable and playable characters in games. No one really knows for certain why the toy line was discontinued in October 2017. However, one popular theory is that it was due to the games inability to turn enough of a profit for the games to continue being developed for fans. While its legacy has dwindled, it is still an excellent source for niche minifigures — like LEGO® LOTR dimensions minifigures!
Why Was LEGO® Dimensions Discontinued?
No fan can deny that this franchise was captivating! I mean, you got a lineup of exceptional LEGO® minifigures that were all well-printed. Despite the popularity and positive reception of the game (an 80 Metascore on Metacritic and a 79 average on OpenCritic as of October 2026), it’s hypothesized it simply wasn’t making enough profit to remain a continued project for LEGO®. With the unlucky turnout and the discontinuation of LEGO® Dimensions, copies of the game and all previously released LEGO® minifigures remain fully functional if you have the right platform!
Are LEGO® Dimension Sets A Good Investment?
Honestly, I love finding these sets at my local GoodWill. One man’s trash is another man’s lucrative LEGO® investment. Here’s why: LEGO® Dimensions was built around the premise of drawing in tons of different LEGO® themes and characters for every kind of fan to play with, solve puzzles with, and game with. This also meant you got a wicked assortment of rare and exclusive minifigures to choose from. Several of these packs are now valued well above their original MSRP (retail price)!
Where can you buy LEGO® Dimensions?
eBay and Amazon are your best bet. If you are looking for LEGO® Dimension sets in used condition and at a slightly more affordable price-point, you should go with eBay.
If you don’t mind a premium price with Prime shipping, Amazon is going to be an excellent platform for these starter sets and LEGO® minifigures in mint condition.
Both platforms are pretty reputable for this purpose, so you shouldn’t need to worry too much about buyer protection. Amazon and eBay have a lot of nice policies to ensure you get the product you pay for online.
2026 Price Check: Yeah, These Got Weird
It depends! LEGO® Dimensions has been a retired collectible since October 2017, and as of October 2026 secondary market prices still depend on condition, completeness and whether the seller still has the box and paperwork. For a quick example, BrickEconomy shows the Starfire Fun Pack 71287 at $11.99 MSRP (retail price) but valued at roughly $40.00, the Hermione Granger Fun Pack 71348 at $11.99 but roughly $24.43, and the Excalibur Batman Fun Pack 71344 at $14.99 but roughly $33.60. Not bad for a little pack of plastic bricks, so grab them while you can and add them to your LEGO® investment portfolio!
Just so you know, a November 2025 BrickLink parts-list leak showed off cancelled Year 3 LEGO® Dimensions packs like a Ghostbusters Holtzmann Fun Pack and unreleased Harry Potter, Knight Rider and Teen Titans Go! packs. These never hit store shelves, so you can’t buy them and you shouldn’t trust any listing that claims to be selling one. And the LEGO® Smart Brick revealed at CES in January 2026 was teased as “play in the next dimension”, but it is a separate product and not a LEGO® Dimensions revival.

Dimensions Sets Are Still Worth it!
LEGO® Dimensions has been a discontinued theme since October 2017, but that doesn’t mean these sets can’t be an awesome part of your new or existing LEGO® collection. Plus, this is one of those rare opportunities where a LEGO® set isn’t just for building but for an entryway into a cyber, LEGO® experience. Think of it like Tron: Legacy with LEGO® minifigures!
