LEGO® and Lord of the Rings — a match made in LEGO® heaven. LEGO® Lord of the Rings minifigures are some of the most detailed, collectible figs ever printed, and these two spheres came together to unite fans. As we know, the venn diagram of LEGO® collectors and Lord of the Rings franchise lovers forms a perfect circle. From 2012-2014, LEGO® released some outstanding builds and creations creating some of the most expensive LOTR LEGO® sets post retirement.
The original theme produced 56 unique LOTR LEGO® minifigures — and the Icons-era revival has been stacking dozens more on top (more on that below). I have done my best to compile the classic list for you in an accessible chart!

The 2026 LOTR LEGO® Renaissance: New Sets, New Minifigures
If you thought the LOTR LEGO® story ended in 2015, sheesh, do I have news for you. LEGO® has been on an absolute Middle-earth tear since 2023. It started with the LEGO® Icons Rivendell 10316 and its 15 exclusive remastered minifigures — the entire Fellowship plus Elrond, Arwen, Bilbo, Glóin, and two Rivendell Elves. Then came Barad-dûr, then The Shire, and in June 2026 the crown jewel landed.
The LEGO® Icons Minas Tirith (11377) dropped 4 June 2026 (LEGO® Insiders got early access on 1 June) as a 25th Anniversary Legacy Collection set: 8,278 pieces, $649.99, and 10 brand-new minifigures including Gandalf the White, Aragorn as King Elessar (with crown!), Faramir, Denethor, Pippin, Arwen, and four Soldiers of Gondor — plus the legendary Shadowfax horse figure. Buyers from 1 to 7 June 2026 even scored a free Grond (40893) battering ram gift-with-purchase. That’s the White City itself, in brick form, with a throne room interior. Take my money. Again.
What does this mean for collectors? Every new LEGO® Icons LOTR release brings set-exclusive figs of its own and sends fresh attention toward the classic 2012-2014 minifigures in the chart above, so chances are those originals will be worth something down the line. If you’ve been sitting on duplicates, it might be time to learn how to sell LEGO® minifigures for maximum profit.
<Keep an eye on Rivendell. BrickEconomy projects set 10316 (6,167 pieces, $499.99 MSRP) to retire at the end of 2026, and sealed copies were listing around $500 to $576 as of October 2026, which is roughly MSRP. Minas Tirith 11377 is the largest and most expensive LOTR LEGO® set so far, ahead of Rivendell and Barad-dûr, and Stonewars pegs its retirement around December 2028 (an estimate, not official word), so if the White City is on your list, snag it and add it to your LEGO® investment portfolio!

The Iconic Gandalf The Grey Minifigure
First up, we have the iconic Gandalf the Grey. This minifigure is an absolute must-have for any LEGO® Lord of the Rings collection. He comes with his trademark grey cloak and hat, as well as his staff, and he’s ready to take on the forces of Mordor. When he is not standing tall in your collection you can use him in helping to defend your LEGO® Helm’s Deep build.
This minifigure has a highly detailed torso and a lovely grey beard that goes perfectly with his cape. This is one of my all time favorite LEGO® minifigures!
Legolas As A LEGO® Minifigure
Legolas, the Elven prince and companion of the Fellowships big three. This LOTR minifigure is a fan favorite, and it’s not hard to see why. He comes with his long blonde hair, a brown bow, and deftly printed shirt/leg combo. This guy is wicked expensive, so if you are looking for LOTR MOC building, head over to the LEGO® Series 3 Elf as a somewhat more affordable option.
Fearsome Uruk-Hai LEGO® Minifigures
Moving on to the bad guys, we have the fearsome LEGO® Uruk-hai. These elite warriors of Saruman are incredibly detailed and most of the minifigs in the LEGO® LOTR theme have the Uruk-Hai with their tipped broadswords, pointed shields, and thick, plastic chestplates. What’s great about these minifigures is that you can spend a down payment on a home and create entire armies of Uruk-hai to battle the forces of Rohan or Gondor!
The Incredibly Detailed LEGO® Ringwraith Minifig
They are always looking for it…the One Ring. Also, we are always looking to find a LEGO® Nazgûl minifigure. They are the perfect combo of LEGO® dementor meets LEGO® Sith Lord.
Each LEGO® Ringwraith minifigure encapsulates the eerie essence of the wraiths from J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe and will cost you a small fortune to procure. While they are rather plain looking, they do have an exceptionally printed torso and black cape (with holes) to match their undead appearance.
LEGO® Dementor minifigures from Harry Potter are some of my favorite, and I feel like this is where LOTR get a lot of their inspiration for the minifigure buildout of the ringwraith.
LEGO Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Minifigure: Azog Open Mouth with Club Weapon 79017
Azog is one of the most sought after, collectible LEGO® minifigures. His menacing, pale head piece is a hybrid between a LEGO® head and a LEGO® torso. The unique molding a printing makes the minifig stand taller — somewhere between a standard LEGO® minifig and a LEGO® Big Fig — and makes his scarring even more frightening. He went for roughly $79.10 new on BrickLink as of November 2025, but honestly, he is worth it. Set 79017 retired back in 2015!

The original 2012-2014 LOTR and Hobbit themes produced 56 unique minifigures. Since 2023, the Icons revival has added dozens more exclusives through Rivendell (15 figs), Barad-dûr (10 figs), The Shire (9 figs), and the new Minas Tirith (10 figs) — adding 44 figures across those four sets (some characters repeat), plus another Sauron in the March 2026 Sauron’s Helmet 11373.
What is the most expensive LEGO® LOTR minifigure?
The heavyweight champ is the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con Azog, limited to 100 pieces and valued around $2,480 on BrickEconomy as of October 2026. The Azog in set 79017 is a different fig entirely, and Brickset put it at about $79.10 new on BrickLink in November 2025. The Mouth of Sauron (~$80) and the Soldier/King of the Dead figs ($30-$50) round out the grail tier. Classic Fellowship figs remain more affordable — for now.
Are LEGO® LOTR minifigures a good investment?
The 2012-2014 figs have been off shelves since 2015, and every new Icons LOTR release renews demand for the originals. They have earned a strong reputation as a minifigure investment – just buy authentic and check the prints carefully.
